The coal mines of Jharkhand, lie in one of India’s poorest states, Bihar. Here, communities of freelance miners live on the hot, crusty soil atop coal seams which have caught fire, expelling a hellish methane vapour. Chris’s photos documenting the lives of these miners and scavengers were shown in projection at the Vis Pour L’Image photo festival, in Perpignan.
